Happy Kubica eyes first points of 2007
Robert Kubica is looking to score his first points of the season after a strong showing in qualifying on Saturday
The BMW Sauber driver finally avoided trouble in qualifying after having lost runs both in Australia and Malaysia due to bad timing.
The Pole will start the race from sixth place and, after two troubled Grands Prix, he is looking to finish in the points.
"Today has been positive as this is my first qualifying this year without mistakes, so it is a step forward," said Kubica.
"I was struggling a bit with the balance of the car, however, it is still good and I am hoping for a good race tomorrow and the first points of the season."
Kubica qualified right behind teammate Nick Heidfeld, who continued to be the best of the non-McLaren or Ferrari drivers with the fifth fastest time.
"I am very happy and the team did a very good job," said Heidfeld. "I had an excellent car and my last run in the final session was really good. The two teams in front of us were clearly faster. The gap is significant, but we have again been the third strongest team.
"To improve on these positions in the race will only be possible if a Ferrari or a McLaren has been extremely light today, or something unpredictable happens."
