Hakkinen and Schumacher joint favourites

As the Formula 1 circus heads into the unknown for this weekend's United States Grand Prix. British bookmaker Ladbrokes is offering odds of 5/4 for both Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher to win the inaugural F1 event at Indy

The McLaren and Ferrari drivers are slugging out the World Championship, and are expected to continue their battle on US turf

For the teams, the combination of oval and road course is something none have experienced before. Only one driver, Jacques Villeneuve, has even raced on the hallowed 2.5mile Indy oval, only a fraction of which makes up the Grand Prix track.

The Canadian, who won the 1995 Indy 500, is quoted at 40/1, while Jenson Button has odds of 40/1 to score what would be his first Grand Prix victory.

Mika Hakkinen, 5/4
Michael Schumacher, 5/4
David Coulthard, 9/2
Rubens Barrichello, 12/1
Ralf Schumacher, 20/1
Jenson Button, 40/1
Heinz-Harald Frentzen, 40/1
Jacques Villeneuve, 40/1
Giancarlo Fisichella, 50/1
Jarno Trulli, 50/1
Pedro De La Rosa, 125/1
Eddie Irvine, 125/1
Jos Verstappen, 125/1
Johnny Herbert, 150/1
Mika Salo, 150/1
Alexander Wurz, 150/1
Ricardo Zonta, 150/1
Jean Alesi, 200/1
Pedro Diniz, 200/1
Nick Heidfeld, 250/1
Marc Gene, 1000/1
Gaston Mazzacane, 1000/1
