Briton Justin Wilson will test for the Newman-Haas CART team in Florida this month while also pursuing a Formula One drive with Minardi, his manager said on Thursday.
Jonathan Palmer said Wilson would test at the Sebring circuit as a possible partner for 26-year-old Brazilian Bruno Junqueira at the team that took Cristiano da Matta to the title this season.
Brazilian da Matta will make his Formula One debut with Toyota next season.
Both Wilson and Junquiera are Formula 3000 champions, and raced each other in that series.
Chip Gannassi's 1999 CART champion, Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya who is now with Williams, was also a Formula 3000 champion.
Palmer told Reuters that Wilson, whose 1.90 metre height prevented him getting a stand-in drive with Minardi last season, had two great opportunities but still needed sponsorship to secure either.
"Newman-Haas are interested in testing him and it's a case of looking to see which deal is more likely to come together. Money is involved in both, that's the hard bit."
