Grapevine: Kubica would 'like to try' rallying

The BMW Sauber driver admits it would be difficult to start a career in the World Rally Championship by the time he retires from F1, but would like to sample the discipline in some form.

"I think there's a good possibility of moving into rallying one day, but there are two ways to do it," he told Reuters. "If I want to rally properly, as a serious driver, I can't wait a long time. But first I would like to achieve something in F1.

"The second option is when I stop F1, to just do rallying for fun. I think this option is more possible."

Kubica also recalls a time earlier in his career when he thought about quitting circuit racing to go rallying.

"There was one moment when I was quite down after one season and I had two offers to go rallying," he said. "But I said I would try another year and see, because my parents had made a lot of sacrifices for me to achieve something in single-seaters. I knew the rally possibilities would still be there in a few years time."

He still likes to attend rallies as a regular punter on his rare free weekends, though.

"If I'm at home and have nothing to do, then I go to rallying. Every time I go, I park the car where the fans park and I walk six kilometres - I don't have any special tickets. I look through some stages to see where the good points are, and how to get to them.

"I like the system of rallying and once you find a good place, you go there and feel closer to the rally. Sometimes in F1 the fans are too far away from what is happening on the track."
