Grapevine: Fisichella: school not a retirement plan

Giancarlo Fisichella has denied that his decision to start a motorsport academy is a sign that he will soon retire from driving

The Fisichella Motor Sport Technopole will be constructed at Vallelunga in Italy and will feature a training centre, museum and the workshops for his racing teams in addition to the school.

"It looks a very, very nice project," Fisichella said. "I want to give to the people like me who love this sport to learn in that academy, to learn what they need to go ahead and to improve and to learn everything about this sport."

Fisichella, who will start his 183rd Grand Prix in Canda this weekend, said the facility would allow him to remain involved in the sport after his retirement - but that he planned to continue racing for some time yet.

"It doesn't mean anything about my retirement, I still want to go ahead in F1 for many years so I have got a good staff who can follow the academy at the moment, all my management, so I will just concentrate on F1 at the moment," he said.

"I love this sport and I like to be involved. One day when I will stop racing in F1, to still be in motor racing - and I am happy about that."
