Jaguar Against Traction Control

According to German magazine Sport Auto, the Jaguar Racing team voted against the re-introduction of traction control, which is due to make its return to Formula One this season.

After being banned at the end of the 1993 season, traction control is expected to be allowed again at this year's Spanish Grand Prix if everything goes according to planned at the FIA's next meeting on February 14.

The Milton Keynes-based team is thought to be supported by Ferrari, Sauber and Prost, who are not keen to see the return of electronic aids.

Reshuffle at Ferrari

Ferrari's technical department is thought to be about to undergo a major reshuffle, according to reports in the Italian press.

Chris Dayer, who just joined the Italian team following his departure from Arrows, is expected to partner Luca Baldissarri as race engineer.

Meanwhile, chief mechanic Nigel Stepney will be promoted to technical co-ordinator with Francesco Ugozzoni taking on the Briton's role.

Minardi Need Drivers

Following the reports which indicate that Australian multimillionaire Paul Stoddart is about to buy a majority stake of the Minardi team, the small Italian outfit need to find an engine, as well as two drivers.

Spanish teenager Fernando Alonso is expected to fill the first seat if the team finally confirms their presence on the grid for the Australian Grand Prix next March.

F3000 star Alonso has a five-year deal with the Faenza-based team, and he has been awaiting an announcement for some months before making any decisions concerning his future this season.

Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi, who is rumoured to be a candidate for Gaston Mazzacane's seat at Prost if the Argentine driver fails to deliver, is the hot favourite for the second seat at Minardi too.

With less than 40 days before the start of the new season, an announcement is expected soon.
