He's back! Schuey gets behind the wheel again

World Champion Michael Schumacher has turned his first laps in a Formula 1 car since last year's season-closing Malaysian Grand Prix

Schumacher missed the whole of December's testing and the bulk of January's schedule recuperating from an operation to remove a steel pin from his leg - the legacy of his 1999 British Grand Prix shunt - but resumed driving duties for Ferrari at Barcelona today (Tuesday).

The German arrived at the track at 12:20 local time (11:20 GMT) and just 30 minutes later was on-track for a five-lap run in an F1-2000 with 2001 development parts. Observers report he suffered no discomfort during or after the run.

He will continue his testing duties for the remainder of today and for Wednesday and Thursday, concentrating on Bridgestone's tyre development programme.

Ferrari has yet to confirm if it will draught in another test driver to replace the injured Luca Badoer, who is out of action for at least a fortnight following his test shunt in Barcelona on Sunday.

Also present at Barcelona were Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw with AMT boss John Garner and the company's technical chief Enrique Scalabroni to oversee Pedro de la Rosa's continuing development programme on the company's Peugeot-derived V10 in one of last year's A21 chassis.

Jean Alesi's running in Prost's AP04 was cut short by an oil leak which necessitated a change of the car's customer Ferrari V10.

Full report at the end of today's running.
