Glock escapes injury in violent crash

Timo Glock escaped injury in his violent accident halfway through the German Grand Prix, but has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks

The Toyota driver was running a competitive eighth, having leapt up the field thanks to a long first stint, when his right rear suspension appeared to fail on the exit of the final corner.

Glock's car spun back across the track and made heavy contact with the pit wall, scattering debris all over the circuit.

He was assisted from the car and has now been taken to hospital, but a Toyota spokesperson confirmed that Glock was uninjured and was simply being taken for precautionary checks.

The accident caused a long safety car period and set up a thrilling finale in the race as Lewis Hamilton charged back to pass Felipe Massa and Nelson Piquet for the lead having chosen not to stop under the yellow.

Glock's teammate Jarno Trulli had been on course for sixth prior to the safety car, but ultimately fell back to finish outside the points in ninth.
