Giancarlo Fisichella Q&A

After four years at Benetton Giancarlo Fisichella returned to Jordan this year, where he spent a single season in 1997. Jarno Trulli made the move in the opposite direction, and despite failing to score points so far, he has clearly had the better deal. Fisichella gained some compensation in Austria, where good strategy and a tigerish performance saw the Italian finish ahead of David Coulthard and gain two precious points. Many still see Fisi as the most underrated driver in the pitlane, but it remains to be seen whether he will ever get into a front-running car. Adam Cooper spoke to him

"Nobody can understand, especially Rubens. What can I say? It was very bad. This year Ferrari is much quicker than everyone else, and they can win the championship easily. Rubens was on pole, he was quick in the race, and for me they should have given the victory to Rubens. It's not good for the people, especially for the people around the circuit who paid for tickets."

"It was unbelievable! I didn't expect to score points, even if in the morning there was a good balance in the warm-up. I did a very good start, and I was 11th or something like that. Then there were two safety cars, and on the second one I went to the pits to refuel to get us to the end. That was perfect. After that the car was good, with a good balance."

"I was very impressed because I had nearly the same pace as David. He was just quicker than me on the two long straights. But in sector two and three I was much more confident and a bit quicker. I was very, very comfortable. I passed him because he made a mistake."

"The engineers told me at the end of the race that he looked alright, and they were doing an x-ray at the hospital. That was more important than my points."

"Hopefully it's just the beginning, but it's not easy!"

"It's not been so good. Another difficult season, although maybe better than last year. But last year there was an opportunity to get better, and this year I can't see the opportunity to improve a lot, like last year. In Canada we'll have a good step of engine, and a lot depends on this. The development of the car is not good enough now."

"Power, downforce and mechanical! We just need to keep going. We need lots of work in the wind tunnel, and more testing. Unfortunately in testing we have problems with reliability, and we cannot develop the car. We don't do enough testing, with just one car."

"I can't see a big difference now, and I don't know whether it is better."

"First of all it depends on the engine for next year, whether there is a good development or not."

"He was behind me in Austria! But the Renault is quicker. Jenson has done very well, but last year I was always ahead. I am a little bit disappointed for that, but now I am in Jordan I have to do my best for Jordan."

"Maybe I can do something better, but it won't be a big step."

"Maybe if it rains!"
