German team lodges Formula 1 entry

German businessman Oliver Behring, the man who tried to take over the Arrows team last year, claims that his new German Grand Prix Racing team has lodged an entry for the 2004 Formula 1 World Championship. If his plans come to fruition, it would mean 11 teams would be on the F1 grid next year

AUTOSPORT understands that Behring has already approached Ford's Premier Performance Division about a supply of Jaguar chassis and Cosworth engines, and he plans to run the team from a base in near Bremen, Germany. Although the Toyota F1 squad is based in Cologne, it would be the first all-German F1 entry since Zakspeed in 1989.

"We will definitely be in the grid at Melbourne 2004," Behring is quoted as saying in the German press. "Our application has already been sent to the FIA."

Behring claims that the team's budget for 2004 is already secured, rumoured to have been sourced in Saudi Arabia, and will also feature a radical additional sponsorship system.

"We will have one main sponsor plus many different part-time sponsors," he said.
