The Renault team left the Silverstone circuit with nothing to show for after a disappointing British Grand Prix where both Italian Jarno Trulli and local hero Jenson Button failed to finish.
After the initial rain had hit the British circuit early in the race, the French squad took a gamble once the track began to dry, calling both their drivers in to change to dry weather tyres.
Soon after that, the rain began to fall again, spoiling all chances of finishing in the points. Both Trulli and Button, however, were forced to retire with mechanical problems, completing a point-less race for Renault.
"Obviously a very difficult race for us," said technical director Mike Gascoyne. "In the dry, the car was competitive and we made the right decision on strategy. The fact that Jarno was running third after his first stop shows as much.
"As soon as the track started drying out, we were losing so much performance that we had to switch to dry tyres. The gamble didn't pay off, which meant we had to make two more stops in line with the changing weather.
"As for the retirements, Jarno suffered electronic problems, and after Jenson stopped with the problem on the left front wheel, we decided to retire him as there was little point continuing given his position."
