Friday First Free Practice - Canadian GP

World Champion Michael Schumacher led a predictable Ferrari one-two in Friday's opening practice session for this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix as the Italian team dominated proceedings once again.

German Schumacher set a time of 1:14.013 to finish 0.278 seconds ahead of Brazilian teammate Rubens Barrichello with BAR-Honda tester Anthony Davidson, who had topped the session earlier, best of the rest half a second back.

Brazilian Riccardo Zonta assumed his traditionally lofty position on the timesheets in fourth for Toyota with Renault pair Jarno Trulli, of Italy, and Spaniard Fernando Alonso fifth and sixth.

Briton Jenson Button, tipped by Schumacher to be his closest challenger this weekend, was down in seventh place in his BAR, 1.915 seconds slower than the leading Ferrari man.

Williams-BMW pair Ralf Schumacher, of Germany, and Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya finished eighth and ninth fastest and Frenchman Olivier Panis, in the second Toyota, rounded out the top ten runners.

Minardi's Belgian test driver Bas Leinders stopped out on track at turn two early in the session and several drivers, including Ralf Schumacher, went off track at turns eight and 15 as they explored the limits of the track.
