Frentzen Stays Calm Despite Struggle

Sauber driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen stayed calm despite a disappointing performance from the Swiss outfit in first qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Frentzen, struggling with oversteer in his Petronas-powered C22 car, wound up only 16th fastest more than 1.5 seconds off the pace after some set-up changes prior to qualifying backfired, making his car's handling worse than in the morning's practice session.

"It's not as bad as it looks," said the German driver after qualifying. "We made a small step with the car this afternoon. Unfortunately it was in the wrong direction, and I had too much oversteer. I'm sure we can do better tomorrow."

Teammate Nick Heidfeld was also hit by oversteering problems, the young German completing a poor day for Sauber with the 17th quickest time.

"I was struggling with oversteer this morning and we made some changes for the afternoon," said Heidfeld. "They improved the car's balance for qualifying but obviously not enough. I am not happy with my position but we think we have a direction to go for tomorrow."
