Frank Williams thinks his team has all the ingredients it needs to move itself back to the front of the field in Formula 1, having begun a recovery from its worst ever season

A technical reshuffle has helped deliver a car that is much improved on last year's disappointing FW33, and the Grove-based outfit has scored more than three times as many points so far this season than it managed in the whole of 2011.

But although it still has some distance to go before it can rediscover its winning ways, team principal Williams is upbeat about the state of the outfit right now.

"We seem to have lost the knack of making poignant cars, but it's not so easy to find it [in F1] because it's very competitive now," he told AUTOSPORT.

"On the face of it, the regulations aren't a myriad of high class mathematical problems; they are quite straightforward engineering problems. We've done it before and we just have to be more clever and more organised, maybe get one or two people in. We can make better cars than we have done. My job is to find the money; the engineers' job is to make racing cars."

The arrival of engineering chief Mark Gillan and technical director Mike Coughlan to oversee the technical aspect of Williams appears to be paying off, and Williams says there are no excuses for the outfit not continuing to improve.

"Do we have the right people? Well, the proof of the pudding is the proof of the pudding. I don't think we lack very much. We have people with strong ambitions and good, strong optimism too. We're proud of what we do.

"We make good racing cars, coupled with a good engine. We have the same engine as three or four other teams. We have the same tyres as all the other teams. It's a bunch of human beings. The trick is to get the best group."
