Foulston: I won't take race abroad

Brands Hatch Leisure chief Nicola Foulston has refuted newspaper claims that she is planning to take the British Grand Prix abroad if she cannot hold the event at Brand Hatch or Silverstone.

Talking to AUTOSPORT Online, Foulston claims remarks she made during a press conference yesterday were misconstrued, and that BHL's intention is to hold the race in the UK.

BHL has submitted a planning application to Kent Council to make the necessary upgrades to Brands Hatch to enable it to conform to FIA racing standards.

'We expect to have an answer [from the council] in the New Year,' Foulston said.

BHL originally approached the British Racing Drivers Club with a deal to purchase the current British Grand Prix track, Silverstone.

However, Foulston scrapped those plans earlier this month - telling the BRDC it had 'bigger fish to fry' - after BRDC members voted against the proposal.

BHL is working on an overseas Formula One project, although Foulston refused to discuss the deal until negotiations were completed, but did admit it was connected with its British Grand Prix contract.

If BHL fails to get planning permission from Kent Council, Foulston said the company would have to go to mitigation - which would involve renegotiating the terms of the contract it has with the FIA.
