Fisichella upbeat for home Grand Prix
Giancarlo Fisichella insists his spirits are still high for his home race in San Marino on Sunday, despite a string of poor performances by the Benetton team
The Italian has endured a frustrating start to the season - and was 15th in Imola's first practice sessions. He says the only saving grace is that the improvements in performance should start to come in the second half of the season
"I am looking forward to the next races, but especially this weekend," he said. "It is going to be difficult, but I am confident because I am sure about the future, even the second part of this season.
"It is strange to be here when we are likely to be on the last few rows of the grid on Sunday. It is far from fantastic. It is also difficult to keep up your spirits, but I have to keep pushing myself to the maximum and we are expecting to make some steps forward."
The Italian had an unexpected sixth place in Brazil, despite starting from 18th on the grid at Interlagos.
"It was great to get that result in Brazil, we really didn't expect it," he said.
