The most difficult thing is qualifying, says Montoya
Juan Pablo Montoya says he must improve his qualifying if he is to win a Grand Prix. The Williams-BMW driver, who is hotly tipped to be a challenger to world champion Michael Schumacher after his starring performance in Brazil a fortnight ago, believes there is plenty of room for improvement on Saturday afternoons
"The most difficult thing for me in Formula 1 is qualifying," said Montoya, who joined F1 this season from US-based Champcars. "I haven't got it right at all yet.
"I think it is hard because I've come from a series in America where you have two sessions to qualify in. Here you realistically have four laps in all to give it everything. It is a matter of you either do it or you don't."
But Montoya has gradually improved his qualifying performances race by race. In the season-opening Grand Prix in Australia, the Colombian started the race in 11th. In Malaysia he started sixth and in Brazil he was fourth.
"I know I am getting better. I think I started off very slowly and I did not push myself too hard as I was getting used to everything.
"I have progressed but there is still a lot of work to do."
