Fisichella upbeat ahead of 'tough' season

The French squad, with a new image unveiled today in the Netherlands, will be counting on Fisichella and teammate Heikki Kovalainen as they fight to retain the titles won last season.

"I am really looking forward for this year and we have a great package," said Fisichella during the official launch of the new car. "There is a big motivation at the team. We want to win again the double championship as last year and two years ago.

"The first impression of the first test was really positive and let's keep fingers crossed," added Fisichella, who already tested the new R27 last week at Jerez. "I think we are already in a good shape.

"As usual it is going to be a tough season, it is going to be difficult to win and get on the podium, but it is part of my job.

"We will be very concentrated to score maximum points in every race and our main opponents are Ferrari, Fernando and maybe there is some others outside. We will see during the season."

Fernando Alonso, twice a world champion with Renault in the last two seasons, has left the team to drive for rivals McLaren.

Fisichella, who was overshadowed by his younger teammate in the previous two season, wants to put the disappointment behind him and fight for the title this year.

"I don't want to look back at those two years," the Italian added. "I did my best for myself and the team, we won together the constructors' championship and this year I have a very good opportunity to do well, to fight for the championship.

"I need a competitive and reliable car like 2005 and 2006."
