Fisichella targets Canadian GP victory
Renault driver Giancarlo Fisichella is aiming to celebrate his contract renewal by winning Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix
Fisichella has scored just one win this season, but the Canadian Grand Prix ranks among his favourites.
The Roman has finished four times on the podium, with two thirds and two seconds, but now he is aiming to reach the top step of the podium.
"I feel very confident and very comfortable in the circuit and with the package we have," said Fisichella ahead of the Montreal race. "I am just positive to score a great result on Sunday and the target is to be on the top of the podium.
"I never went on the top step of the podium but have a chance to do that. Even last year I was the leader of the race but then had a problem. I have confidence with the circuit and we have a good package to do well."
The Italian driver will ensure continuity at the French team after announcing the extension of his current contract until the end of 2007. World champion Fernando Alonso will leave Renault at the end of this season to drive for McLaren.
The Italian said he was delighted to stay at the French squad for another season, his third in succession.
"Of course it is great, it was my target to be one more year with the team and I am just really confident about that, especially for the rest of the season," said Fisichella. "It is a great feeling now with the team, the atmosphere is good.
"I am happy to be the first driver who has signed a contract for next year with a top team and it is one more year and good for me at the moment."
