Fisichella Keeps Open Mind to Future Options

Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella has insisted his future options remain open after admitting he is surprised that Ferrari have never made an approach for his services.

Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella has insisted his future options remain open after admitting he is surprised that Ferrari have never made an approach for his services.

The Italian star, who returned to Jordan after four years with the Benetton team, is strongly praised by team boss Eddie Jordan as a star of the future, but Fisichella has admitted the Ferrari dream is still in his mind.

"I don't know why (Ferrari have not called)," said Fisichella. "They don't seem to be interested in Italian drivers. But you never know. At the moment I am a Jordan driver so I will concentrate with them but I am sure there will be the opportunities in the future."

The Italian driver, who has not won a Formula One race yet, was overlooked when McLaren chose Finn Kimi Raikkonen as a replacement for the departing Mika Hakkinen last year, and he admitted that upset him.

"Of course it did," Fisichella said. "He hasn't got the experience yet as a driver and they paid a lot of money to Sauber to have him. So I don't understand why, after Mika Hakkinen, which is one of the best drivers in Formula One and with more experience, they went for a very young driver. But that's life."
