Fisi makes Sauber debut

Giancarlo Fisichella has begun his new career as a Sauber Petronas driver in Formula 1 testing at Barcelona in Spain on Tuesday

"For the first day with my new team I´m quite happy with the result," said Fisichella said after completing a programme concentrating on damper developments. "I covered almost 100 laps, which is a lot for Barcelona. "

The Italian had a few problems with his seat position, but sorted thoise for a solid afternoon run after which he appeared cautiously optimistic about his new team.

"I was able to complete the scheduled test programme for today," he continued, "but there is still a lot to learn. It´s a very nice and familiar atmosphere at Sauber. Everyone works in a very professional and friendly manner."

"After this test, I will have a break until the new car is ready, which will be in the middle of January."

Fisichella will test for the rest of the week at Barcelona. He will be partnered at Sauber this year by Felipe Massa, who won't be joining him at the team just for the moment as he is driving for Ferrari this week.
