Firman Passed Fit for Italian GP

Ralph Firman has been given the all-clear to return to the cockpit for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix after recovering from injuries sustained in a high-speed crash in practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Ralph Firman has been given the all-clear to return to the cockpit for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix after recovering from injuries sustained in a high-speed crash in practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Firman visited Peter Hamlyn, the assistant of FIA medical delegate Professor Sid Watkins, for a second check-up on Tuesday and was passed fit pending a final mandatory test at Monza on Thursday.

A spokesman for Firman's Jordan team confirmed that Firman is "fine and cannot wait to get back in the car" now the bruised ankle he suffered when his car collided with the tyre barriers at around 240km/h has healed.

"After the disappointment of missing last week's test there is a lot of work to do in Friday morning practice," said Firman, who is in his first year of Grand Prix racing. "But I am looking forward to it and just want a solid performance."

Firman, who has scored one point this season, was replaced by Hungarian Zsolt Baumgartner at the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 24 and is now looking for a good final three races to hang onto his seat with the team for next year.
