Firman aims to win fitness fight

Jordan's Ralph Firman is adamant that he will be fit to race in this weekend's US Grand Prix at Indianapolis, despite missing the last two races due to injury

Following his high-speed crash in Hungary, Firman has only been able to complete 26 laps of Silverstone before he felt dizzy again. But the Briton insists that his inner ear problem will be sorted in time for Indianapolis.

"The most important thing about going to Indianapolis is for me to race after the frustrations of the past few weeks," he said. "After my accident in Hungary I really would not have believed that I'd subsequently miss the Italian Grand Prix, but the effects of a 46G impact are obviously quite severe and I've been careful to rest, fully recover and get back into training. If there is an upside to what has happened it's that I have had a lot of time to concentrate on my next race.

"I have not raced at Indianapolis before, but I know it is a unique track and it will be interesting to race on the banked section. My objective is to have a strong weekend back in the car and I plan to work hard with the team to see if we can squeeze a few championship points from this and the final round in Japan two weeks later."
