Fear of Failure Drives Us, Says Brawn

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn said after Michael Schumacher's fourth World Championship win on Sunday that a fear of failure was what drove him and the team on.

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn said after Michael Schumacher's fourth World Championship win on Sunday that a fear of failure was what drove him and the team on.

Brawn, who from the pit-wall has helped mastermind Schumacher's successes, said the team have built themselves up to be the best in the business and now have no intention of relinquishing that mantle.

"There's a massive fear of failure, that's what drives us," said Brawn, who also saw Ferrari clinch this year's Constructors' Championship at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday with a one-two finish for Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.

"It is a great period in Ferrari history but when you've managed to do the things we have managed to do there is no way you are going to relax and do anything less. I think we are now in a Ferrari era and I hope it will continue for a very long time but we are not taking anything for granted and we've got to work very hard to continue it."

Brawn, who has been with the team since 1997 and worked with both Schumacher and chief designer Rory Byrne before that, put their rise to Grand Prix domination down to the teamwork within the Ferrari camp. And he believes that the long-term grounding will see them through to future success as they continue to build the team to even more dominance in a bid to extend the Ferrari era.

"We all know each other's strengths and weaknesses," he said of key members in the team. "Things aren't perfect but they're very, very good and we all know each other really well. I've worked with Michael nine years, Rory ten years, Jean quite a long time - I knew Jean [Todt] before I even came to Ferrari so it's a group of very like-minded people, we just help each other."
