Eddie wants top Ferrari spot
Eddie Irvine has his sights on Michael Schumacher's job as Ferrari team leader
The Ferrari number two said his team-mate had 'the best job in Formula One' as he ducked questions about his Formula One future.
Asked to comment on newspaper stories that he was dreaming of hearing the double champion announce his retirement he said, 'It would be nice wouldn't it - not likely to happen but it would be nice.'
'Obviously Michael is the number and he has got the best job in Formula One being number one at Ferrari. '
'I would love that job but while Michael is there I can't have it. If Michael decides to retire it would be great for me personally.'
The Irishman, whose Ferrari contract is up at the end of the season, dodged questions that he was set to go to Stewart next year in a straight swop for Rubens Barrichello.
'It's a story that someone came up with when they were sitting in bed one morning and needed to fill a page of a newspaper,' he said.
Pressed further to categorically deny there was any truth in the story he added, 'Wait and see - as long as that person sitting in bed wasn't [Ferrari boss] Montezemolo, I'm alright.'
