Ecclestone seeks return to Spa for 2004

The Belgian Grand Prix could return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2004 if anti-tobacco legislation introduced by the country's government is reversed, Bernie Ecclestone has told this week's AUTOSPORT magazine

Races in China and Bahrain have been added to the schedule for 2004, filling up the space on the calendar that has been created following the decision to drop the Austrian GP after this year's event. But Ecclestone has suggested that the calendar could expand to 18 races next year to accommodate the return of the Spa circuit.

"We are okay [with the number of races for 2004]," said Ecclestone. "The only thing we may have to do is put one back if we want to run in Spa and if I can convince the teams to have 18 races."

When asked if he would like to see Spa return to the F1 calendar, Ecclestone said: "Yes. There aren't many tracks like that any more."
