Ecclestone expects Raikkonen comeback

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has tipped Kimi Raikkonen to bounce back from his current difficulties - even though he is still convinced Felipe Massa will end the year as champion

Raikkonen has struggled to get fully comfortable with his new Ferrari, and has seen teammate Felipe Massa take three consecutive pole positions and two wins to edge clear of him in the world championship.

But, despite the issues the Finn is facing, Ecclestone still believes that Raikkonen, as well as Fernando Alonso, can turn around their situations.

"Kimi is great, and whoever casts doubts on him is wrong, you'll see," Ecclestone told Gazzetta dello Sport. "It's the same with Alonso, they are two champions.

"But in life it's important to be in the right spot at the right time with the right combinations: car, environment, quality. When the three elements combine, the results come forth. I've only known one driver, an extremely good one, always in the right spot at the wrong time: Stirling Moss.

"As for tomorrow's result, it will be the usual four, depending on the start."

When asked about his comments earlier this season that he thought Massa would be champion, Ecclestone replied: "I believe in it. He's good, he's sparkling, I like him."

Ecclestone has also cheekily suggested that Monaco would be the ideal venue to switch to a night race - even though such a move would be highly unlikely.

"This race doesn't offer much overtaking, but Monaco includes all the elements people look for in F1, starting from the magical atmosphere and the show outside the track. In fact, it would be ideal to race here at night."
