Don't count out Bridgestone, says Brawn

Despite Williams-BMW locking out the front row of the Canadian Grand Prix grid, Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn thinks that the race could be a different story

Bridgestone claimed the first four slots in first qualifying on a wet track yesterday and although Michelin reversed the scenario by taking seven of the top nine grid positions when it mattered, the overall picture is not that clear.

Qualifying in Canada was cool and overcast, normally conditions that would suit Bridgestone and yet Michael Schumacher, who was third quickest and set the fastest Bridgestone time, was fully half a second adrift of his brother Ralf's pole position time for Williams.

Schumacher admitted that the lap was not one of his better ones and said that consistency of tyre performance will be important in the race.

Brawn said: "It is a bit premature to say that Bridgestone tyres did not work as well in the dry as they did in the wet. In qualifying the track was obviously still green [due to the morning rain] and so we will have to wait until tomorrow in race conditions to see what is the real situation."
