Donington appoints Sir Rodney Walker

Donington Park has appointed Sir Rodney Walker as its new non-executive chairman elect

Walker, 66, has overseen Manchester's successful Commonwealth Games project and the rebuilding of the new Wembley Stadium, and is currently the chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.

He will take up his new role once the circuit's leaseholder Donington Holdings PLC has raised the necessary funds to complete the development that the circuit is currently undergoing in order to stage the British Grand Prix next year.

Donington CEO Simon Gillett said: "We welcome the appointment of Sir Rodney to the Board. His experience in the stewardship of dynamic growth companies and knowledge of the management of sporting venues and sporting associations will be invaluable.

"His appointment is the first of a few key executive and non-executive appointments we hope to announce in the coming weeks."

Walker, who has previously held a position on the board of Brands Hatch, and was involved with Donington Park Estates from 1999-2005, said: "I welcome this opportunity to return to Donington and support the management team in their strategy to establish Donington as the home of British motorsport.

"I look forward to playing my part in the delivery of world-class motorsport facilities at Donington, the new home of the FIA Formula One British Grand Prix for the next 17 years."
