Delighted Salo Targets Points Finish on Sunday

Finn Mika Salo was looking forward to scoring more points for the Toyota team after setting an impressive tenth quickest time in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix on Saturday.

Finn Mika Salo was looking forward to scoring more points for the Toyota team after setting an impressive tenth quickest time in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix on Saturday.

Salo, who gave the Cologne-based team their first point at the Australian Grand Prix when he finished in sixth place in Melbourne, had already tested with the Japanese squad at the Malaysian circuit last year.

Benefitting from their experience, Salo and Toyota continued to shine, and the Finn was confident of a top six finish again in Sunday's race.

"I am very happy," said Salo. "To have our first ever top ten qualifying is good for the team. We have a strong race car and when you start from tenth position you are actually in the race, so we have a good opportunity to score more points tomorrow."

Teammate Allan McNish had to use the spare car after suffering a problem in his race machine, and was disappointed after the session, having to settle for 19th position more than a second behind Salo.

"It was not a good session today," said the Scot. "We had a problem on the first lap which meant I had to come back to the garage for the T-car, but I never really had a good feeling or set-up.

"Tomorrow we need to have a good clean start and keep out of trouble on the first corner and see what happens from there."
