Delighted Heidfeld Hopes for Wet Race

Nick Heidfeld is hoping for similar conditions over the next two days of the Canadian Grand Prix following his promising performance in today's wet first qualifying session.

Nick Heidfeld is hoping for similar conditions over the next two days of the Canadian Grand Prix following his promising performance in today's wet first qualifying session.

Sauber driver Heidfeld took full advantage of the tricky weather conditions at the Montreal circuit to post a surprising third fastest time, and he is hoping for more rain in final qualifying and Sunday's race.

"This morning I was struggling with the traffic and didn't really get a clear run, but my qualifying lap went well even though it still wasn't optimal," said Heidfeld at the end of the session. "That was not possible under the weather conditions that we encountered.

"I am very happy about my result, especially as it is not easy to drive with so much water on the track and the car aquaplaning everywhere. I had a very good set-up thanks to my engineers, and now I'm hoping that it rains over the next two days, too."

Teammate Heinz-Harald Frentzen, on the other hand, was hoping for less rain after posting the seventh quickest time.

"I hope that I have less water on the track when I start tomorrow's qualifying session in 14th position," said Frentzen. "The system of starting in reverse order for Saturday qualifying is quite hard, and it is often just a question of luck."
