De la Rosa Calls for Changes at Indy
The lay-out of the Indianapolis circuit has come under fire from Jaguar's Pedro de la Rosa just days before the United States Grand Prix will be run on it this weekend.
The lay-out of the Indianapolis circuit has come under fire from Jaguar's Pedro de la Rosa just days before the United States Grand Prix will be run on it this weekend.
Spaniard de la Rosa claims the organisers need to modify the infield section to make it more demanding and also hit out at the length of the track, which only made its Formula One debut last year.
"We have to lengthen the track," stated de la Rosa. "That's one of the most important things - it's one of the shortest circuits. Lap times (last year) were (in the) one minute 14s, this year it will be even quicker. So I think it's too short.
"I don't really like the infield section. I think it could be a little bit better with more challenging corners. We need to make it more interesting with a couple of corners, quicker corners."
De la Rosa also made suggestions as to how the track, which is built inside the 2.5-mile oval and uses two of the banked corners and one main straight, should be revised.
"If we can use the back straight it would be a very good idea because then you increase the overtaking opportunities to double. And that's it. I mean, this is what we want and it's up to the organisers to say if it's possible or not."
