Coulthard Refuses to Let Frustation Take Over

Scot David Coulthard is refusing to let the frustrations that have soured his recent races get the better of him as he prepares for Sunday's European Grand Prix.

Scot David Coulthard is refusing to let the frustrations that have soured his recent races get the better of him as he prepares for Sunday's European Grand Prix.

Coulthard's championship chase has sputtered after technical problems with his McLaren car caused three disappointments in the last four races. But although the 30-year-old is now 18 points behind leader Michael Schumacher, he is keen to get back on course and looks to the challenge ahead.

"We've analyzed as much as we can and if changes are necessary they'll be made by the team," said Coulthard. "It's frustrating, but it's history now so we look to here and try to make sure we don't have it again."

Learning is an important factor in McLaren's title campaign as rivals Ferrari continue to dominate. Schumacher and Coulthard have both finished all but one of the races this season, but world champion Schumacher has not yet finished lower than second.

Coulthard, in contrast, has seen potentially victorious races taken from his grasp before turning a wheel after having his engine stall on the grid twice as McLaren struggled with their launch control systems.

But Coulthard said: "I don't get involved in that because they run the car and I concentrate on making sure I'm fit and ready for the next race. I doubt we'll have the same problem again because the good thing is that of the problems we've had recently it has not been the same one happening over and over.

"So at least we are responding to the fact we are correcting the problems as they happen."
