Coulthard hindered by gearbox problem
A gearbox problem hindered David Coulthard during qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix, where the Scot will start from the back of the grid
The Red Bull driver, who is yet to finish a race this season, endured another miserable afternoon after failing to make the first cut, his car suffering a gearbox problem during his first run.
The problem meant Coulthard will start the race from 21st position.
"The car seemed to lose seventh gear at the end of my first qualifying run, at Turn 12," Coulthard explained. "We thought it was a sensor failure so the team changed something and I went back out.
"However, it appeared that the car had lost fifth, sixth and seventh gear, which is not ideal when you're trying to qualify."
Teammate Mark Webber enjoyed a much better session, qualifying in eighth position. The Australian, however, admitted he was hoping for more.
"I'd have liked to have done a little bit better at the end of the third qualifying session, but that's where we are," he said. "We'll see if we can get a point or two tomorrow in the race."
