Scot driver David Coulthard has called for the introduction of new pitlane rules in order to allow both cars of the same team to come into the pits at the same time.
The McLaren driver was at the losing end twice last season at the German and Belgian Grand Prix due to his team's decision to bring teammate Mika Hakkinen into the pits in the right moment, while Coulthard was forced to stay on track, losing a lot of valuable time and therefore points.
To avoid this situation, Coulthard believes Formula One should imitate the American CART series, where all cars can refuel at the same time.
"If you could pit both cars together it would be actually driver against driver," he told Motoring News. "At the moment it’s team against team.
"It would be better if we cut down the number of mechanics, because even if it took an extra 20 seconds for a pit-stop, then it would at least be the same for everybody.
"There is a case for an Indy-style pit, where two cars can pit at once. The way F1 is now, it is vital to pit at exactly the right time."
However, it is thought almost impossible to expand the pits in places like Monaco, where there's hardly room to work.
