Coulthard, Brawn, Barrichello Land BRDC Awards

David Coulthard, Ross Brawn and Rubens Barrichello today landed top honours in the 2002 British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) awards.

David Coulthard, Ross Brawn and Rubens Barrichello today landed top honours in the 2002 British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) awards.

McLaren driver Coulthard joined Stirling Moss and Graham Hill in winning the prestigious ERA Club Trophy, first awarded in 1948 to honour distinguished performances, and also landed the BRDC Gold Star Award.

Briton Ross Brawn was named as winner of the Fairfield Trophy for outstanding performance as Ferrari's technical director, while Ferrari driver Barrichello was the recipient of the Johnny Wakefield Award for the fastest lap at Silverstone in 2002.

Former Williams driver Italian Alex Zanardi was given the Colin Chapman Trophy - the BRDC's Special Award - to mark his achievements in the sport before his horrific crash in America's CART race at the Lausitzring in 2001.

Sir Jackie Stewart, president of the BRDC, said: "The achievements acknowledged range from the technical expertise of Ross Brawn to the individual success of racing drivers.

"The award to Alessandro Zanardi is a reminder of both the risks and the passionate dedication of the racing driver in providing the thrill and excitement of our great sport."
