Button to Undergo Medical Today

Briton Jenson Button will undergo a medical today to assess whether he is fit to return to the cockpit of his BAR-Honda this week after his heavy practice crash in Monaco last Saturday.

Briton Jenson Button will undergo a medical today to assess whether he is fit to return to the cockpit of his BAR-Honda this week after his heavy practice crash in Monaco last Saturday.

Button was knocked unconscious when he crashed heavily after losing control coming out of the tunnel at the fastest section of the Monaco circuit and was withdrawn from the race after spending a night in hospital.

He has already undergone hydrotherapy and physio sessions but will not be passed fit to test with the team on Thursday until he has been given the go-ahead by a team doctor.

A team spokesperson said that Button has also been troubled by an eye infection and added: "Our decision on whether he will test this week will be based on the check-up and the state of the eye infection, which is still troubling him."

Button, who had to be cut out of his wrecked car, was shaken by the crash, his first major accident in Formula One, and he cannot recall the immediate aftermath of the crash.

He complained of aches, bruises and a painful knee on the morning after the crash but was confident that he could return to the track in time for the next race, in Canada, next weekend.
