Jenson Button says he is much more confident for 2002, and has vowed to increase the pressure on himself next season and test his experience to the hilt as he bids to secure his future in the sport.
Briton Button, 21, will compete for the Renault team next year, in what is the final season of a two-year loan deal from BMW-Williams. He is contracted to BMW-Williams until 2005, but with Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher impressing at the team he is unlikely to go back there for 2003.
"I will put myself under enormous pressure next season, it's a really important year," said Button to The Mail on Sunday. "I'm much more confident. Not nervous in any way. I couldn't be in a better frame of mind."
Button was criticised by Renault team boss Flavio Briatore at times last season as the young driver struggled in the team to get results. He improved towards the end of the year and is confident he can continue to prove his worth next year.
"I like my chances in the future against anyone," he added. "Even Michael Schumacher."
