Button: maiden win doesn't change you

Do not expect Felipe Massa to be a changed driver as a result of his maiden Formula One win

That is the view of F1's previous new winner Jenson Button, who has said he has already been left frustrated by constant talk that a first victory changes a driver and makes him more self-assured.

"I have always been very confident," declared Button. "You don't win races if you are not confident. I am fed up with people saying a win changes you - I have always given the best in the car.

"Nothing changes even if you win a race - it doesn't change you and it shouldn't."

Asked for his reaction about Massa's win, Button claimed it was good for F1 that there was another winner on the grid.

"Well done to him," said Button. "He did a good job here - better than Michael (Schumacher). It is good; he is a grand prix winner and good on him.

"Before I won a race there were three people who won races this year. That was Michael and the two Renaults. Now it is the two Ferraris, the two Renaults and us."

Ferrari sporting director Jean Todt said on Sunday night, however, that he hoped there would be some change in Massa.

He believes that getting his first win under his belt may actually make the Brazilian even more determined to help teammate Michael Schumacher to the world title.

"I mean, definitely, it was a very good weekend for him because he had his first pole and his first win," explained Todt. "So he will probably be even more dedicated to help the team to fight for both championships - even if he was already well dedicated. He is a very good team player."
