Button Happy to Get Back to Racing

Jenson Button was delighted to put his mind back on track in Friday practice at Interlagos but said he was worried by the gap to Ferrari ahead of this Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Jenson Button was delighted to put his mind back on track in Friday practice at Interlagos but said he was worried by the gap to Ferrari ahead of this Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Button, who said on Wednesday that he was disappointed he must stay with BAR-Honda next year after failing in a bitter legal battle to join Williams-BMW, insisted the team had been positive despite his reaction to the decision.

"It's great to get back in the car and we've had a great day today," said Button. "I am very focused on working with the team as well as I can this weekend and then we'll sit down with the team about next year. We do have to look forward to the future and that's my aim.

"The good thing is we've done all our comparisons, which is very important. Tomorrow we'll work on our consistency for the race but today it seems to be positive. I think I'm sixth tenths off the Ferraris so it's not that great, especially on such a short circuit, but it's Friday and we've just been running through our program, that was our main aim today.

"It was a very good Friday."

Button's team have shot to form this year and, with the runners-up spot in the Constructors' Championship all but secured, they are aiming to end the year on a high with their first ever victory.

They claimed ahead of the Brazilian race that the twisty and bumpy Interlagos circuit would suit their car and Button finished fourth in practice with teammates Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato fifth and sixth.

"It's been a good day for us and hopefully it will continue tomorrow," said Button. "There's still a lot to look at on which tyres to take but I'm reasonably happy."
