Button glad of assistance in Hungary

Formula 1 ace Jenson Button believes that his Benetton team's new power steering system could be the key to continuing his German form in this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix

The young Brit has had a difficult year so far with Benetton, but things took an upturn at Hockenheim three weeks ago when he and team mate Ginancarlo Fisichella notched up this season's first double helping of points for the team with fifth and fourth places.

Not least of Button's problems however, has been adapting to driving a car without power-assisted steering. The 21-year-old has been troubled by a recurring shoulder injury this year that has not been helped by heavy steering.

But after months of fine-tuning, the Enstone-based team's system is up and running. And Button says that it should come into its own at the twisty Hungaroring circuit this weekend.

"Things would have been easier with power steering, but then again it hasn't been possible this year because there's been so much going on," said Button. "There have been a lot of other things we've had to sort out and deal with. The biggest difference will be over a race distance, on a tough circuit, in hot conditions. Hungary is going to be one of them."

Benetton's technical director Mike Gascoyne is also optimistic about the team's chances in Budapest and he believes that the high downforce circuit will suit the Renault-powered B201.

"We aim to prove that the good result in the last race was not a fluke," he said. "The good mechanical characteristics of the B201 and the fact that we will be running with maximum downforce leads us to believe that we can be competitive. As it is likely to hot in Budapest, we have a revised cooling package."
