World champion Jenson Button may be handing over his crown after this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but says he is hugely excited by the winter that lies ahead of him

After troubled post-seasons in recent years, Button says he is fired up by the prospect of being able to work from a solid platform with his future totally secure.

"Yeah it is great," said Button, who slipped out of mathematical contention for the title at the Brazilian Grand Prix last weekend. "I don't think I have had a nice winter for many years, of actually sitting down and working with the team on preparing next year's car.

"It has been so long, many years, since that happened so it is nice - nice to be in a position where we end a season with a reasonably quick car and we can just keep building on it over the winter with both drivers pushing the team hard

"I am looking forward to it. It is going to be a busy winter, it's not going to be one big holiday - so busy but exciting in the same way."

Button said he could not remember when he last had a winter that was so settled for him.

"Last year to this year I changed teams, and the year before I didn't think I was going to be racing in 2009," he said. " The year before that, we had no direction and Ross Brawn came in very late - too late to help the car in a way. So there has always been something in the winter.

"The year before that it was where I was going to be racing at Williams or BAR, so it has been a lot of changing, moving and stressful winters. This one isn't going to be stressful - it is going to be a walk in the park, it is going to be enjoyable running through improvements and everything I need from the car, from the comfort within the car to the balance of the car and direction I would like to change it."

Button believes the key area of improvement he must make in 2011 is to find a better balance for qualifying.

"There have been low points - qualifying is an area that I have struggled with a little bit this season, and finding a balance has been tough for me on low fuel," he said.

"I am very happy with my race performances and I feel that in the races I have got the best out of the car, but the problem is I have had to come from so far back.

"I have had some very good races and strategy calls, so it has been a fun year and I've enjoyed Sundays more than Saturdays, and also a point to mention is that I feel very at home here. I am not taking anything away from my old team because I felt very at home there and part of the team, but I didn't think it would happen so quickly with this team.

"I didn't think I would be welcomed as much as I was and, with a team with so much experience and so much history, you are a little bit nervous when you arrive. There's excitement although a bit of apprehension too. I've loved working with the team this year and it is great to have a team that really listens to your opinions and what you have to say, and that makes me very positive for 2011."
