Button denies Jordan switch

Jenson Button has denied he will replace ousted Jordan ace Heinz-Harald Frentzen

The 21-year-old Briton insists he will see out his deal at Benetton, which runs until the end of 2002, despite a frustrating season in which he has yet to score. Button is one of several drivers who have been linked with the vacant seat at the British team, including Minardi's Fernando Alonso and British Formula 3 title favourite Takuma Sato.

Frentzen was ditched on Wednesday following a disagreement with team boss Eddie Jordan.

"I am here until the end of next season," said Button at the German Grand Prix. "I don't know anything about any driver movements concerning Jordan. As far as I know, [Ricardo] Zonta is driving for them."

Instead, Button says he is looking to the future at the Renault-powered team and hoping for an improved result in Hockenheim.

"I'll understand the car more next year, but I feel I am more up to speed and certainly more comfortable with the team," he added. "The car wasn't too bad today. Again there was too much oversteer, but hopefully we won't be back in 18th or 19th.

"I think we will be better than that, maybe 15th. I would love to be, but I have said things like that before and they haven't happened."

Button, who finished 15th at the end of Friday practice, is contracted to Williams-BMW, the team he drove for in his debut season last year, but was loaned out to Benetton for 2001 and '02. The Enstone-based outfit will be taken over by Renault in time for the start of next season.
