Brawn shocked by opposition

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn has admitted his surprise that the Scuderia's nearest rivals have not put up more of a fight in the opening three grands prix of the season, and he says he expects more from them when the European season starts at Imola later this month

Michael Schumacher has won all three of the races so far with relative ease, and team-mate Rubens Barrichello has backed him with runner-up spots in two of them.

When asked for his thoughts on the opposition self-destructing in Bahrain at the weekend, Brawn told autosport.com: "I am surprised, yes. I welcome it, obviously! But I don't think we can rely on that forever. We've got another 15 races, so definitely feet on the ground."

Brawn says there will be no slacking off from Ferrari, despite their dominance so far, and this is underlined by the fact that both Schumacher and Barrichello will test at Barcelona today.

"We've got an important two weeks of testing, the first in Barcelona, and the second in Fiorano," he added. "Both race drivers are available, and that shows their level of commitment. We've got a useful step, I believe, for Imola, both in the tyres and in the car. There's no way we can ease back. You never ease back until the championship is won."

On the subject of Kimi Raikkonen's dreadful start for McLaren, Brawn says he expects a backlash from the young Finn when he gets the machinery to do so.

"It's sad to see someone of his talent not being able to fight," said Brawn. "But I think it will be good for his character. When he comes back he will be a stronger driver."
