Brawn critical of Monza owners

Ferrari's technical director Ross Brawn criticised the Monza circuit owners for not notifying any of the teams or tyre providers about the recent resurfacing at the track, but he was nonetheless confident that Bridgestone has a suitable tyre for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix

The track was resurfaced between Curva Grande and the Ascari chicane, resulting in an exceptionally smooth surface covering around half the track.

The change caught teams by surprise in last week's testing, and Michelin, for one, revealed they had to change their preparations for the Grand Prix.

Speaking at Monza yesterday, Brawn said the Bridgestone teams were also taken by surprise at the test and was critical of the circuit owners for not properly notifying anyone about the change.

"We didn't know it had been resurfaced until we arrived [at the test]," the Briton said. "I guess the circuit owners did it and didn't think to tell anyone.

"We have been here [previously] to look at the circuit to check it out because - Michelin and Bridgestone have a roster of measuring the surfaces to see how they are since the previous year - and at that stage nothing had been done.

"Probably the circuit owners do not appreciate the sensitivity of those things. If this had been a track where we not tested before, it would have been frustrating to find out [at a GP] the circuit had changed.

"Normally we do get advance warning if the track is going to change."

Asked, however, if the resurfacing work affected the Italian team's tyre choice, Brawn replied: "We are not completely sure.

"We had all the families of tyres to try, and we are not surprised by the tyres that we found today. They seemed logical and nothing unusual, so it is hard for us to judge."
