BMW confirm launch date

BMW have confirmed that their new Formula One car and its livery will be unveiled in Spain in the middle of January

With the German car manufacturer having announced on Thursday that Malaysian oil company Petronas will be their main sponsor, they also said that the official team launch for their 2006 contender will take place at the Valencia circuit on January 16/17.

BMW's motorsport director Mario Theissen said last week that the most difficult part of their integration with the former Sauber team was now almost at an end.

"Things are on track," Theissen told autosport.com. "Apparently the phase between signing the contract in June and the real takeover in January is the most difficult.

"You have to merge two teams and everyone has to change in a way to get used to new behaviour. This always creates discomfort on both sides, but we are through it more or less now and pushing forward."

BMW have yet to announce who will partner Nick Heidfeld at the team, although a decision could be made before testing resumes next week.
