Barrichello: we have a lot of work to do

Rubens Barrichello believes that Honda still have a lot of work to do before they can even think about winning races

The Brazilian endured a frustrating San Marino Grand Prix where, after qualifying third on the grid, he eventually slipped to 10th overall due to a lack of race pace and a problem at one of his pitstops.

With teammate Jenson Button having dropped from second on the grid to seventh, after also suffering problems in the pits, Barrichello thinks that Honda are going to have to focus on both improving their car's performance and overcoming potential organisational problems before they can start fulfilling their potential.

"Once again we have the pace in qualifying and not in the race," said Barrichello, looking back on the Imola performance.  "There's lots of work to do. We are still far away from what I think the car is capable of and we have to work on the car before we can blame anything."

Despite his assessment of the situation, Barrichello believes the team are not panicking, as they know exactly what they need to do to resolve their current issues.

"The team are quite relaxed," he added. "It is small things that aren't happening and that's no good for us. It's a combination of things.

"We are making it stronger and better every day but it's not good enough to compensate for those small problems. We need to get to the bottom of the situation."

Honda were due to have a 'motivational' meeting at their Brackley factory today ahead of testing at Silverstone this week where they hope to further experiment with the car's set-up to help them improve race performance.
