Barrichello hopeful of turning the corner

"I didn't have the start I would like to, so it is much easier to say that Europe will be the start of my decent career with Honda but I don't know," said Barrichello, who moved to Honda after six seasons as Michael Schumacher's teammate at the Ferrari team.

"The three races were very good for me to feel in common with the team. It is new everything: this race I didn't know the motorhome, I didn't know anything so it is still new to me and I am changing things.

"I needed to wait a time for the things that I said initially to come true, not that they didn't believe me but it is because I was too new with the team. I think for us to go to the next level, we need to improve little things as well.

"We are on the right route definitely and I feel more comfortable coming to Europe."

Barrichello has only scored once this season, having finished in seventh place in the Australian Grand Prix, and has been unable to match the pace of his British teammate Jenson Button.

But the Brazilian says his team are now listening to his advice and things are coming together.

"To be honest the problem was initially getting to grips with the car and saying this is bad, this is bad, this is good," he added. "But Jenson was doing very well and it was difficult to say, listen, he is going well but it is difficult and he is going to have problems as well.

"It's not that they didn't pay attention but it was a normal thing as a new guy coming in. Jenson is doing very well, but for Jenson to win a race and go to the ultimate level the car needs to improve in the way that I think it should go, so everything is coming my way slightly."

Despite having had problems adapting to the braking of his Honda, Barrichello believed he could have fought for victory right from the start of the season, following an impressive winter from the Japanese squad.

The Honda driver now admits he was probably setting too high a target.

"I was under the impression that I put a lot of pressure on myself in the first few races because the car was competitive and I felt like winning the first three," Barrichello added.

"And I got there to Bahrain and I had a problem with the brakes that they only recognised on the Monday, which was very sad because it was a track that we had tried before, and it was annoying that the car was pulling to the right because it was locking the rear brakes.

"After that it was just the pressure and getting a bit excited about everything. Australia was a bit better already but I had a problem in qualifying. Here is better again and I am happy with the brakes so I am taking all the steps necessary to make the team a winner and that is the way you have to calm down and just do it."
