Barrichello clarifies Monaco incident

The Brazilian was on course for his first top-three finish for Honda Racing when he was caught speeding at the final stop.

The exact reasons for the problem were not known at the time, although there had been some suggestions he pushed the speed-limiter button twice because he got confused about which buttons he had pressed on his way into the pits.

"There was no confusion," said Barrichello, who eventually finished fourth in the race.

Instead, Barrichello claims the problem was caused when he accidentally hit the pit-limiter button on his way into the pits as he tried to correct an oversteer moment.

Not realising he had hit the button already, he pushed it for what he thought was the first time - only to actually switch the limiter off and duly exceed the pitlane speed limit.

"My car oversteered at the pit entrance, making me touch the buttons on the wheel accidentally," explained Barrichello to his own website. "That caused me to turn on the pit limiter button that limits the speed inside the pits.

"What happened was that when I actually pressed the button thinking it was the first time, it was in fact the second time. And with that, the system turned off and you already know what happened next.

"It's a pity because third place would have been a great prize. But the important thing is that we are on the right track."
