Barrichello Blames Debris for Imola Exit
Brazilian Rubens Barrichello has revealed that a piece of rubber which flew into his car was to blame for his retirement from the San Marino Grand Prix
Ferrari said after the race they suspected an electrical problem was to blame, but Barrichello, who had suffered a similar problem in Malaysia, has revealed the real cause.
A piece of rubber had got attached to the rear wing of his Ferrari during the Malaysian Grand Prix, ruining his tyres and forcing him into retirement. At Imola, Barrichello fell victim to debris once again.
"In Malaysia it damaged my rear wing, while this time it slipped inside the car, which overheated to the point that it forced me to retire," the Brazilian told Gazzetta dello Sport. "By now I've picked up everything from the track, the only thing I miss is to pick up the winner's cup.
"I don't want to talk about bad luck, as I don't like that," added the Brazilian, who has only finished in the points in the first race in Australia. "I'm sure that by working hard my time will come, as it's always happened in the past.
"This car is very competitive and considerable progress has been made with the tyres too. We can go to Barcelona with great confidence: that track is fairly similar to this one here at Mugello."
